Privacy Policy

Effective date: 2026-09-25

RAWeather uses only the data needed to provide weather, editorial text, and notifications. On first launch, the app shows this privacy notice before making external network requests, accessing location, or registering notifications. Location and notification access still require separate permission when you use those features.

What we use

  • Location: Apple’s geocoding service uses location coordinates to resolve your current place name. Coordinates sent to RAWeather servers and weather services are reduced to roughly 1 km precision, and precise device coordinates are not written to the app’s persistent cache. You can also decline location access and choose a city manually
  • Weather and AI text:Some in-app weather advice, trends, and travel summaries are generated or refined by DeepSeek from weather data and labeled nearby. Widgets and notifications use rule-based text without a generative model. DeepSeek may receive the city, current and near-term weather, and alert types or titles, but not names, contact details, push tokens, precise location, or full alert text.
  • On your device: Your city, recent weather, language, display, and notification preferences are stored on your device. If notifications are enabled, a random installation identifier and secret are also stored. They can be linked to this device's notification records and are not anonymous data.
  • Notification records: If you enable notifications, the server processes a random installation identifier, device push token, selected location, area, language, time zone, and preferences, and stores the notification, delivery result, and whether it was opened.
  • Network information: The server and its infrastructure process the IP address associated with a request for security, abnormal request limiting, and service troubleshooting.

Where data goes

RAWeather uses QWeather, Apple WeatherKit, public Japan Meteorological Agency data, DeepSeek, and Apple Push. Some weather text may be generated or refined with AI assistance. DeepSeek may receive the city, current and near-term weather, and an alert category or title, but not your name, contact details, device push token, exact location, or full alert text. Weather queries may send your selected city or a location rounded to roughly 1 km to QWeather or Apple WeatherKit, including places in mainland China. RAWeather has no separate accounts and does not use data for targeted advertising, cross-app tracking, or sale.

Your choices

You can turn off location and choose a city manually. You can also disable notifications in the app or iOS Settings. Disabling notifications stops future delivery but does not delete existing server records. To delete server-side push installation data, preferences, and associated delivery records, visit Support or email devin1209@me.com.

iCloud city and trip sync

City sync is optional and off by default. After you confirm enabling it, the app uses the Apple Account signed in on your device to merge manually saved cities and their order across devices. You can also choose to restore cities from iCloud during initial setup. No separate RAWeather account is required

Apple CloudKit stores sync data in a private database belonging to your iCloud account, without passing it through RAWeather’s service servers. It includes city identifiers, names, administrative areas, city coordinates, time zones, localized place names, ordering, modification times, random sync-device identifiers, and deletion markers. City coordinates describe the selected city, not your device’s live GPS position. Current location, location history, notification settings, and widget settings are not part of city sync

The app uses the account identifier supplied by CloudKit to distinguish sync accounts and does not read your Apple Account password. Signing out of iCloud or changing accounts pauses sync. Enabling it again merges the cities retained on your device into the new account

Turning off sync or withdrawing privacy consent stops further sync but keeps local and cloud data. Uninstalling the app does not delete cloud data. Removing a city while sync is enabled removes it from other devices’ saved lists on subsequent syncs, but the cloud retains its city record with a deletion marker to prevent older devices from adding it back. This version does not automatically erase those records. To erase the app’s iCloud data completely, use Apple’s iCloud storage management controls. If you cannot find the relevant option, contact us using the details on this page for guidance

Trips share the same sync switch as cities. Sync includes trip names, stops and their city details, dates, completion status, trip and stop identifiers, revisions and deletion markers. Creates, edits and deletions propagate on subsequent syncs. Deletion markers are retained to prevent offline devices from restoring deleted trips. Trip weather caches and the currently viewed trip remain local

Coffee support and invitations

Payments use the App Store. To avoid reminding past supporters, the app reads verified coffee purchases and sends Apple-signed transactions to our server for reconciliation. We retain only a transaction-ID hash, product, test or production environment, reconciliation status and recording time. Signed payloads, Apple IDs and payment details are not stored, and records are not linked to location or push identifiers. Records are removed during cleanup after one year; Apple purchase history can be verified again. First-use and reminder dates stay on your device. Withdrawing consent stops reconciliation and invitations. Contact us below to request deletion of reconciliation records.

Safety, updates, and contact

RAWeather is not a service directed to children under 14, and we do not intentionally collect children’s identity information. A guardian who identifies such information may contact the developer to request deletion. Weather, alerts, and AI text are for everyday reference. In severe weather or an emergency, please follow local official guidance. If our practices change materially, we will update this page and the effective date.
